THE KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT IS IMPORTANT

DR. Huston Smith said that in the course of his study with the native American people that he learned and saw something that had not occurred to him before, he said;
"I previously thought that tribal people, exclusively oral people that do not have writing, that they were somehow inferior. Because we speak but we also have writhing, and so we have everything and more. I [with serious face] have come to think differently, I've come to see that writing adds to speaking.... to have a cumulative written record of human history is very enriching, so it does add, but what i had not seen before it also subtracts, now what does it take away? and the answer is, THE KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT IS IMPORTANT.
